About Elyria Municipal Court
Originally established in 1955 by the Ohio State Legislature, Elyria Municipal Court only had one judge until the 1970s. Although, when it was decided that one judge could not shoulder the caseload, only one was added. Based on a 2000 Federal Census, the Elyria Municipal Court district serves more than 118,000 people, but that number is likely much larger now. It officially serves four cities (Elyria, Grafton, North Ridgeville, and Lagrange) and six townships (Elyria, Grafton, Eaton, Carlisle, Lagrange, and Columbia).
